Q&A With On the Tip of Your Tongue
1. Where are we talking from today?
A: Nashville, TN
2. Where did you get your artist name from?
A: When I was in middle school I was sitting in the back seat of my friend’s parents car, and we were coming back from Warped Tour. His Dad said something along the lines of, “What’s that band we saw, oh the name is on the tip of my tongue. Hey someone should name their band that.” So I did.
3. Music-wise what are you working on right now? Are you currently promoting a single or album?
A: On August 23rd our E.P Sad Songs About Girls, will see its release. After that, we’ll be back in the studio preparing for next year’s release, our debut album, Serial Romantic.
4. Who or what were the most significant influences on your musical life and career?
A: Matt (lead singer and guitarist): Bob Dylan, MF DOOM, The Smiths, Weezer, and my choir teacher, Mr. Warren, who has always pushed me to be my best.
Micah (bassist): My fourth-grade music teacher who got me into music.
Logan (drummer): My father, who pushed me to play an instrument and my drum instructor, Kyle Jones.
Shane (guitarist): Johnny Marr, the man who when I saw him playing I thought, “I can do that too.”
5. Who are your favorite musicians?
A: We struggled, but limited ourselves to three apiece!
Matt: Morrissey, Rob Cantor, Yoñlu
Micah: Luke Holland, Eric Vanlerberghe, and Gabe Helguera
Logan: John Bonham, Neal Peart, Johnny Stevens
Shane: Mac Miller, Kurt Cobain, and Johnny Marr
6. What have been the greatest challenges/frustrations of your career so far?
A: The over saturated music market has really been a massive obstacle for us. We long for the olden days of the ’60s and ’70s where artists could be discovered and move forward from there with a safety net. In the current musical landscape, we’re fighting against the thousands of poorly recorded and written songs that are dumped onto all the major streaming platforms every single day. However, the digital era has given us the chance to reach our niche and hopefully branch out from there.
7. As a musician, what is your definition of success?
A: Truly, we’re desperate for a chance to play our music in front of thousands. We’re determined to expand our musical following with whatever work is necessary in order to find our audience. Success is, to us, the very concept of getting to play our music as often as possible.
8. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A: Sustaining ourselves monetarily from the band exclusively.
9. What is your present state of mind?
A: We are hugely hopeful.
10. What is your most treasured possession?
Matt: My white Mexican Telecaster.
Micah: The Beatle’s Second Album (the capital release) first pressing, on vinyl.
Logan: My girlfriend’s love and affection.
Shane: My signed Elvis record.
11. What do you enjoy doing most?
Matt: Writing songs for the band.
Micah: Skateboarding and playing shows.
Logan: Playing video games or building with Legos.
Shane: Playing shows and spending time with the guys
12. Where would you like to be in 10 years’ time?
A: Touring internationally as a group and continuing to make the music we love.
